Snoop Dogg shares what made him change his tune on 'derogatory' lyrics about women

Here's to being willing to learn and evolve.

Snoop Dogg has become a beloved figure among all ages.

Few people in the public eye have had as dramatic a redemption arc as 90s gansta rapper, Martha Stewart best bud and Olympics ambassador Snoop Dogg. The 52-year-old has become a beloved figure for multiple generations who enjoy his chill positivity and endearing, get-along-with-everyone persona.

No one who came of age in the 90s would ever have imagined their parents or grandparents becoming Snoop Dogg fans, yet here we are.

The perpetually stoned G-funk star came onto the music scene as a bad boy of West Coast hip-hop in the early 90s, with a criminal rap sheet that included felony drug possession and sale and first-degree murder charges (for which he was acquitted). His music reflected his gangster lifestyle, with references to drugs and alcohol, deadly gang rivalries and derogatory slang terms for women.

But to his credit, a couple of key interactions with other musicians led Snoop to change his tune when it comes to putting misogynistic lyrics into his songs.

Dionne Warwick told Snoop and his friends to say it to her face

In 2023, Snoop shared in the CNN film Dionne Warwick: Don’t Make Me Over that singing legend Dionne Warwick had invited him and some other 90s rappers to her house. They were to arrive no later than 7:00 a.m., and they found themselves so intimidated, they were in her driveway at 6:52 a.m.

"We were kind of, like, scared and shook up,” Snoop said. “We’re powerful right now, but she’s been powerful forever. Thirty-some years in the game, in the big home with a lot of money and success.”

Warwick said she respected their right to express themselves but was tired of the misogynistic lyrics in their songs. She pulled a power move, demanding that they call her a "b__ch" to her face.

"“You guys are all going to grow up,” she told them. “You’re going have families. You’re going to have children. You’re going to have little girls, and one day that little girl is going to look at you and say, ‘Daddy, did you really say that? Is that really you?’ What are you going to say?”

Snoop said that he and his fellow rappers were "the most gangsta as you could be" at that time and believed they couldn't be checked. He admitted, however, that Warwick "out-gangstered" them that day.

Lifesaving Item You Should Probably Pack On Vacation

From Buzzfeed -

The Lifesaving Items That Doctors Always Pack On Vacation

Medical experts recommend taking face masks, hand sanitizer, tweezers, tape, and more whenever you travel.

by Tessa Flores, HuffPost Staff

According to Dr. Sterling N. Ransone Jr., president of the American Academy of Family Physicians and a full-time family physician in Deltaville, Virginia, having a really good grasp on your specific medical conditions or allergies and the medications needed to treat them is absolutely essential to vacationing safely. (The American Academy of Family Physicians does not endorse any products or services.)

“It’s important to include a one- to two-day day supply of medications taken for chronic conditions, like diabetes or high blood pressure. Things happen. You never know when your luggage may be lost or stolen. A small supply in your first aid kit will relieve worry until your doctor’s office can arrange for a refill near you,” Ransone told us.

He said that this list can include things like epipens, inhalers, glucose kits or aids used to treat coronary issues.

Outside of the realm of medicine, Ransone also said that he packs copies of identifications, passports and health insurance cards for each person traveling. “You never know when you may need to seek care due to accident or illness. It’s also good to have extra copies on hand in case you fall victim to theft,” he said.

You can keep unpacking Ransone’s luggage in the list below, in addition to seeing the travel recommendations of a couple other physicians, too.

1. An economy pack of hand sanitizers

Amazon

For the same reason listed above, Ransone will also always travel with a germ-busting rotation of liquid. These are extremely high-rated and trusted options for germ protection in addition to being perfectly packaged for travel.

Get a pack of eight from Amazon for $14.99.

2. A two-pack of pocket-sized strips of duct tape

Amazon

According to Ransone, there's not much that he can't fix with duct tape, whether it be used to close wounds or secure splints. That being said, who wants to tote around a huge roll of duct tape around in their suitcase? These flat, pocket-sized mini rolls have five yards' worth of tape each and solve that problem instantly.

Ransone also recommends what he calls "buddy tape," which are cushioned  bandages that can be useful for stabilizing jammed or sprained toes and fingers.

Get a two-pack from Amazon for $7.99 (available in seven colors).

5. A 50-pack of DEET-infused towelettes for protection on the go

Amazon

"I hate getting itchy bug bites when traveling. Insect repellent wipes really help. Plus, preventing bites can help you avoid certain infectious illnesses, like Zika and Lyme disease," Ransone said.

These towelettes each contain 30% DEET, one of the most reliable ingredients used to repel Lyme-carrying ticks, and can be rubbed onto exposed patches of skin to provide up to seven hours of protection. The water-based formula is low-odor, non-greasy and non-staining.

"Talk with your family physician if there are vaccines you should get before traveling to parts of the world where these infections are common," Ransone added.

Get a 50-pack from Amazon for $41.50.

Why the Steelers Don't Have Cheerleaders

An excerpt from TotalProSports -

Here’s Why The Pittsburgh Steelers Don’t Have Cheerleaders

By Darrelle Lincoln

The Pittsburgh Steelers do not have cheerleaders.

It is crazy to think about since the Pittsburgh Steelerettes were the first cheerleading squad in the National Football League, serving as the cheerleaders for the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 1960s.

They are one of only six NFL teams without cheerleaders, along with the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, and New York Giants.

Speaking of the Packers, when the two teams met in Super Bowl XLV, neither franchise had cheerleaders, as Green Bay did away with their cheerleaders in 1988 after market research indicated fans did not really care.

The Steelers’ cheerleading pioneers were part of the organization from 1961 until 1968.

In the 1960s, the team’s lack of cheerleaders ended after the girls wished to wear outfits that were more “modern” and “daring.”

According to Wikipedia, the owner wasn’t feeling it, so he decided to fire them instead.
